





President U Min Aung Hlaing inspected the Myanma Railways Diesel Locomotive Shed (Mahlwagon ) under the Ministry of Transport on July 28.
In the workshop conference room, Union Minister U Mya Tun Oo presented a briefing on the history, objectives and duties of the Shed as well as current staff strength, measures taken to ensure the strength and durability of railway lines, sending study tours abroad to develop an international-standard rail transport system, the operation of DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) trains, and ongoing assessments regarding mechanical issues.
In response to the presentations, the President remarked that continuous research is necessary to manufacture and utilize higher-quality locomotives domestically. He stressed that implementation of construction projects must be completed within the designated timelines of each fiscal year, and that steam locomotives should be restored and maintained in their original forms to be operational again.
Furthermore, since rail transport serves a large volume of the public, he instructed officials to systematically manage operations to ensure accurate and reliable departure and arrival times. Additionally, the President stated that preparations should be made to incorporate an underground railway network in Yangon, and that advance plans must be laid out for operating electric train cars in the future.
He also highlighted the need to continue efforts toward assembling and manufacturing DEMU train cars locally using custom in-house designs. Following the briefing, the President inspected the DEMU train sets undergoing routine maintenance inside the Shed and provided the necessary guidance.
