Transport and Communications: New housing facilities and preparations for cyclone

Member of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San attended opening ceremony of Set Hsan Staff Housing in MingalaTaungnyung Township in Yangon on Saturday.

After formal opening of the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister and party inspected the newly constructed buildings. The new facilities included two 6-storey buildings, two hostels, a Multi-Function Assembly Hall and a clinic.

It was followed by opening of Thiri Annawa Hall and new housing. The Deputy Prime Minister unveiled the signboard of the hall and sprinkled scented water on the commemorative inscription.

In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister said the government and the ministry is providing necessary arrangements for convenience of the staff including accommodation, welfare and transportation. He urged all the staff to be loyal to the department and serve their assigned duties with concerted efforts.

The Managing Director of Myanmar Port Authority later reported on the salient points of the new facilities, followed by the screening of documentary on the construction process.

The Deputy Prime Minister and party later arrived at Rail Bus Engine- RBE Workshop in the compound of Yangon Railway Station. They inspected the operation condition of 8 RBE coaches, handed over by West Corporation and renovation of 7 RBE coaches that remain to handover.

The Deputy Prime Minister instructed for timely completion of the tasks, cleanliness of rail coaches, safety measures and long term durability. He also met with the departmental heads under the ministry, and instructed to closely monitor the possibility of cyclone that is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal very soon.

He also instructed to make timely assessment on the impacts on the transportation and communication sectors, to manage the changes of airlines, vessels and rail routes accordingly, temporary moving of aircrafts at the safe airport, docking of department vessels at the nearest ports and dockyards in time systematically, to follow the standard maintenance system in order to avoid accident in rail service and to make reserve system for communication in order to make reconnection if the system failure occurred. He also called for cooperation and coordination among the departments in case of natural disaster.
