The northern bank of the Yarlung Zangbo River in Shigatse, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, once a barren landscape, has been transformed into a thriving green space.  Over the past two decades, more than 2,000 hectares of trees have been planted with support from local efforts and officials from Weifang City, Shandong Province.

This initiative began with a successful demonstration in the city center and expanded along a 40-kilometer road. Since 2014, a diverse forest of populous trees, Xizang willows, and sea buckthorns has achieved a 95 percent survival rate. The project has engaged over 2,000 local farmers, contributing significantly to the region’s ecological and economic development.
