Two passenger trains were delayed due to inundation on the rail tracks between Bago and Shwe Hlay Stations. A torrential rain that started on Sunday morning in the Bago Region caused the spillways of the Zaungtu Dam and Kadu Kwin Dams to overflow, resulting in flooding on the rail tracks, spanning approximately 500 feet.
The No.4 Down Train from Mandalay made a temporary stop at Pyinpongyi Station, while the No.82 Up Train from Mawlamyine halted at Waw Station. Officials from Myanma Railway provided convenient arrangements for the stranded passengers.
With the assistance of the Bago Region Government, 225 passengers were transported from Pyinpongyi to Yangon Railway Station by buses. Plans are underway to transport the remaining 570 passengers from No.82 Up Train to Yangon.
Due to the floods, four passenger trains had to cancel their rail trips. Staff from Myanma Railway are currently carrying out rail track maintenance work and will resume operations once the water recedes.
