Tragic Incident: Sayadaw killed in terrorist attack near Myotha

In a tragic event on 19th June, a Sayadaw lost his life in a terrorist attack near Myotha. The attack, carried out by PDF terrorists at about 1:30 pm, involved a mine detonation targeting security forces on duty nearby Myotha and  Kamma village.

During an exchange of fire between the terrorists and the security forces, a vehicle traveling from Thakyin village to Myotha was caught in the explosion, resulting in a car crash about 250 meters from the site of incident.

The security forces discovered that one of the Venerable monks was deceased and they rescued another Sayadaw and driver. The deceased Sayadaw was identified as a retired member of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee from Win Nimmitayon Monastery of Bago.

The injured Sayadaw is also a retired member of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, and belongs to the Kan Thone Sint Pariyatti Sarthintaik Monastery in Mingaladon Township, Yangon Region. The remains of the deceased Sayadaw and the injured Sayadaw, along with the driver, were transported to the Defence Services Hospital.

It is learnt that the two Sayadaws visited Mandalay by air to attend pre-coordination meeting for the Shwe Kyin Nikaya Central Committee which is scheduled to be held 20th June at Maha Vithuddhayon monastery.

The monks were attacked, on the way to Kamma village in NgunZun township which is the the hometown of the Venerable Kan Thone Sint Sayadaw. Security measures have been heightened in the area following the incident.
