Traditional Thingyan Festival: Preparations underway for Thingyan celebration

In honor of Myanmar Traditional New Year Atar Thingyan Festival which has been inscribed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) List, 2025 Nay Pyi Taw “Aye Thingyan” Festival will be held featuring various traditional activities.

The festival will be celebrated by performing hair-washing and nail care to elderly, charity feasts and splashing water with Eugenia Sprigs. In addition, the Thanakha application demonstration will be included, marking the efforts for Myanmar’s Thanakha to be inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

On Friday, Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn inspected the preparation measures for the festival.

Although 2024 Nay Pyi Taw Splash Walk Thingyan Festival was held in grand scale with variety of entertainment programs, along with throwing water, this year Thingyan celebration will be held serenely without musical performances to show sympathy and respect for every individual who lost life and property due to devastating earthquake on 28th March.
