Traditional Customs: Kayin Traditional White-Thread Tying Ceremony in Hpa-An

47th Kayin Traditional White-Thread Tying Ceremony was held at Zwekapin Hall of Hpa-An on 23rd August. Deputy Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw U Maung Maung Ohn attended the ceremony, together with concerned officials.

After clarification on the thread tying ceremony by the Chairman, Kayin State Chief Minister expressed words of blessings. This was followed by presentation on the history of the event by the Kayin youths in Poe Kayin, Sakaw Kayin and Myanmar languages.

30 million kyats cash assistance were donated for the event, along with the presenting of certicates of honor to the well-wishers. Then, the attendees led by Deputy Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw U Maung Maung Ohn received the white thread tying from the elders. White Thread Tying Ceremony is one of the Kayin ethnic traditions, aiming to build the unity among Kayin people and preserve the traditional customs. The event is usually held across the nation in the month of WaKhaung.
