Tourism Sector :Nearly 7 million pilgrims visited Shwedagon in 6 months

The Shwe Dagon Pagoda, the most sacred pagoda in Myanmar and situated on the Singuttara Hill in Yangon. According to the member of the pagoda board of trustees, previously on the months of March and April, over 1 million pilgrims visited Shwe Dagon Pagoda and the number of visitors increased on the weekend.

Member, Pagoda Board of Trustees (Shwedagon), Min Lwin, said " From January to March, the numbers of visitors’ entry have reached about 700,000 to 900,000 per month and about 1 to 1.3 million visitors visited during March and April. The numbers of international visitors have being increased up to 6,000 to 7,000 at present. Visitors from Thailand, China and Russia visit to the pagoda and especially from Thailand and China."

There are many religious buildings on the platform of Shwe Pagoda which have being preserved for a long time and the preservation works are carried out daily by the Pagoda Board of Trustee members.

Member, Pagoda Board of Trustees (Shwedagon), Min Lwin, said " The renovation works of encircled  stupas which are located at the upper terrace of the pagoda have been completed and similarly, the renovation works will be carried out to the damages of long existing religious buildings on the pagoda platform. And also plans are underway to celebrate religious ceremonies in every month and the ceremonies will take place in every full moon days in upcoming months of Buddhist Lent. "

Visitors’ entry of Shwe Dagon Pagoda have reached almost 7 million from local and international  during 6 months from January to June and the pagoda is opened daily from 5 AM to 8 PM. And also cleaning and security processes are being carried out for the pilgrims aiming to peacefully paying homage to the pagoda.
