Tour in Pyinmana: SAC Vice Chairman inspects damaged infrastructures

Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win inspected the damages caused by the severe earthquake at No.1 Myoma Market in Pyinmana on Wednesday.

The earthquake has left the collapse of Buildings A and B of the market, and currently, the clean-up works are being carried out and the survey for the durability of the remaining buildings is underway. Out of over 1,300 shops in the market, 393 were damaged. While the reconstruction works are underway, the temporary market will be opented in the Aung Mingalar Compound near Yangon-Mandalay Old Road in Pyinmana.

The Vice Senior General and party later proceeded to the Agriculture and Livestock Institute and heard reports on the damaged buildings during the quake. He instructed for speedy recovery works before the school opening season and systematic maintemance of teaching aids equipment. In meeting with the principal, teachers and staff families, the Vice Senior General explained the plans to provide assistance and coordinated the needs.

Out of 92 buildings in the Institute, 8 buildings including five ancient building were collapsed with five other sustained slight damages. Among them, five collapsed buildings and one damaged facility were ancient structures, including the Agriculture and Mechanized Farming Department Building, built in 1923, Yin Mar Hall, built in 1928, and Tharapi Hall, built in 1938.
