Tokyo Tower lit up to mark 60th anniversary of Japan-South Korea ties

Tokyo Tower has been lit up in the colors of South Korea's flag ahead the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea.

The project on Saturday was jointly organized by the two countries' governments in a bid to promote people-to-people exchanges. Japanese Vice Foreign Minister and South Korea's Ambassador to Japan attended the ceremony.

Likewise in South Korea, Namsan Seoul Tower was illuminated in red and blue after the images of the two countries' national flags on the same night. The lighting ceremony was attended by Japan's Ambassador to South Korea and Seoul's First Vice Foreign Minister.

With the pressing of the switch, a logo mark commemorating the 60th anniversary was also projected upon the tower. Visitors between Japan and South Korea totaled more than 12 million in 2024, marking a record high.
