Thriving flowering plants: Marigolds bloom in Hopong Township

Marigold which is also known as Tagete flowers are growing successfully as a trial planting in Ta Phuu Kaing village in Hopong township of Pa-O Self-administered Zone. 

Marigold flowers have started to be cultivated on 26th April and they have to be transplanted when the seedlings are about 30 days and the saplings are feed with Bokashi fertilizer.

In the month of August, the flowers have been picked and sold. The flowers are picked once a week and sold at about 650 kyats per viss. If picked once, about 150 visses of flowers can be produced per acre.

According to the flower grower, the pollen of Marigold flower is used in the medical formulation and is mainly cultivated to be re-used as animal feed.

The manrigold flowers are called variously depending on the regions and they are also exported to China.

If the manrigold flowers are planted annually, it can be able to generate income. If they are grown in commercial scale, they can attract visitors to pay a visit for relaxation so that it can support regional development and can create job opportunities for the locals.
