Thousands of quake victims shelter in Latakia stadium

Thousands of people took refuge in a sports stadium in the Syrian city of Latakia on Friday as accommodation was sparse due to earthquakes which devastated buildings in the country. The centre’s basketball court was crowded with mattresses and sleeping bags as people found space to rest with their families.

A local aid organization tried to provide for their needs with food and bedding. On Friday, in his first visit to areas hit by the earthquake, Syrian President and his wife visited two shelters in the city of Aleppo and a kitchen preparing 3,000 meals a day for displaced people.
