Thousands of migrants caravan march towards US border

On Christmas Eve, over 5,000 migrants marched as part of a caravan towards the US border in Tapachula, in the Mexican state of Chiapas.

“Today, the poorest of the poorest of the poor are marching," said Luis Garcia Villagran, organizer of the caravan. 

On 22nd December, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador declared that his government would intensify its efforts to contain irregular migration flows.
