Thousands flee as Israel tightens 'stranglehold' around Gaza City

Thousands of Palestinians fled the fighting and bombardment in Gaza as Israel said it was tightening the "stranglehold" around Hamas.

About 15,000 people fled from the northern Gaza Strip towards southern areas on Tuesday, compared to 5,000 on Monday and 2,000 on Sunday as another surge was underway on Wednesday. Israel's campaign to destroy Hamas pushed into its second month as its forces battled the Palestinian militants in Gaza City, despite mounting calls for a ceasefire.
