Thousands took to the streets of Tbilisi Sunday demanding the resignation of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili over a lack of reforms.

Georgian opposition parties and civil society fear the current government is unable to carry out reforms outlined by the European Commission, which are the prerequisites for the country's aspiring EU candidacy status and membership.

Protesters vowed to hold rallies until their demands are met and Garibashvili resigns. The rally was triggered by the European Council's decision this week to recognize Georgia's candidacy status once certain reforms are made and requirements are met.
