Thilawa SEZ: Factories Operating Normally

Currently, there are 116 enterprises have invested for $2.28 billion into Thilawa Special Economic Zone. The total investment has increased by over $ 90 million between February and July in 2021.

Chairman, Thilawa SEZ Management Committee, Yan Naing Tun said “At present, a total of 116 enterprises from 21 countries have ploughed in $2.28 billion into Thilawa Special Economic Zone. The total investment increased by over $90 million between February and July in 2021. There are 14 enterprises which have raised their investment including a new enterprise. Some of the enterprises which have increased the investment are cement production industries and pharmaceutical industries. There are 3 pharmaceutical enterprises which have ploughed in Thilawa Special Economic Zone from foreign countries. These pharmaceutical industries import the raw materials from foreign countries to produce the qualified finished products and distribute them within the nation systematically.” 

There are some enterprises which have stopped operating during COVID-19 pandemic period. But all of the enterprises in Thilawa Special Economic Zone have been re-operating since 2021 and there are about 15,000 employees in Thilawa Special Economic Zone.
