Thailand, Singapore to seal five-year rice trade deal during Anutin’s visit

Thailand Prime Minister Anutin departed for Singapore on Thursday for a one-day official visit, aimed at strengthening ties and cooperation with the island state in various areas. Government spokesman said that the prime minister’s visit is at the invitation of his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong and marks the 60th anniversary of Singaporean–Thai diplomatic relations.

After attending official reception ceremonies at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Anutin and Wong are scheduled to hold bilateral talks, during which a five-year rice trade agreement between the two largest economies in ASEAN is expected to be signed. Under the agreement, Singapore will import 100,000 tons of Thai rice over the period.
