Thai lawmakers are expected to vote on the country’s next Prime Minister on September 4th or 5th, following last week’s Constitutional Court ruling that removed PaetongtarnShinawatra from office.

House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said the House secretary-general has been tasked with coordinating prime ministerial nominations from political parties. He stressed that MPs must be informed at least one day before the vote, making September 4th and 5th the most likely dates.

The opposition People Party is expected to decide its nominee this afternoon. The House has been instructed to prepare for a possible vote between September 3rd and 10th, though no party has formally submitted a nomination yet.  Wan Noor said he hopes the new leader will be chosen quickly to avoid instability from a prolonged vacancy.
