Thai Ambassador to Washington DC, Thanee Sangrat, has issued a warning to Thai nationals abroad to verify calls claiming to be from embassy officials following on reports of a fake consulate syndicate pretending to be high-ranking officials.

The ambassador urged Thais to use direct hotlines to confirm the authenticity of calls from embassies and consulates. He stressed the importance of protecting Thai nationals overseas, suspecting that some in the US may have fallen victim to fake consulate syndicates more than reported.

Meanwhile,  Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs has engaged in talks with Thai officials on the matter, with further discussions with the US on Monday on collaboration in combating technology-related crimes.
