Terrorist Acts: Education staff killed and abducted, students threatened

The PDF terrorists carried out violent attacks on education workers in Mangalay and Magway Regions. At around 8 a.m. on Sunday, seven armed men arrived on four motorcycles at a high school branch in Kone Phaya (Nyaungpinkan) Village of Nyaung-U Township.

The attackers abducted the School Principal and her husband from their staff quarters and shot them dead outside. In a separate incident on June 14, five armed men on motorcycles reportedly abducted a primary school assistant teacher from her home in Pakokku Township.

Security forces are working with local communities to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Likewise, PDF members threatened the parents of Grade-12 students who are going to retake the matriculation exams. Nine students from Kalatae Village Branch High School were staying at a temporary location in Thirimingalar Ward, Nyaung-U Township, for their exams.

Due to the threats of PDF, the parents of six students took back their children home, fearing for their safety. Three remaining students are expected to be picked up by their parents later. Security forces are working with education officials to ensure the students can safely continue and sit for their exams. Authorities have also initiated security measures to identify and take legal action against those involved in the threats.
