Panic swept across Sydney’s Bondi Beach after gunmen opened fire, sending people running along the shoreline as what appeared to be bursts of gunfire rang out. Police confirmed that at least 10 people were killed in the attack, describing the shooting as a “terrorist” incident.

Mal Lanyon, regional police chief said "At 9:36 p.m. this evening, I declared this to be a terrorist incident. I've also authorised special powers under sections 5 and 6 to ensure that, if there is a third offender — and we are currently investigating that at the moment — we will make sure that we prevent any further activity."

Police said, an "improvised explosive device" was found in a car linked to a suspect in a deadly shooting. Australian broadcaster ABC reported that one of the shooters was among the dead. The beach and surrounding areas were sealed off as emergency services responded and investigations got underway.
