Teams compete 500 meters underground in Iğdır’s unique Republic Day tournament

As part of the 102nd anniversary celebrations of Republic Day, an extraordinary event took place 500 meters below ground in Tuz Mountain, located in Iğdır’s Tuzluca district of Türkiye. The “Republic Salt Volleyball Tournament” brought together eight teams for two days of intense competition in the salt mine.

At the end of the matches, the Kamışlı Village team claimed the championship title. During the trophy ceremony, Iğdır Governor highlighted the health benefits of the location, saying, “The salt cave is beneficial for respiratory health and helps relieve asthma. Combined with sports, this event has gained an even stronger health dimension.”
