Teacher fatally stabs eight-year-old in South Korea

Police in Daejeon said Tuesday that a teacher at an elementary school admitted to stabbing a seven-year-old girl who was found critically wounded during an afterschool care program on Monday.  

The teacher was found beside her with stab wounds that police said may have been self-inflicted. In a police briefing, the head of the Dajeon Western Police Station, said the teacher was currently recovering in hospital, adding that she had a wound on her neck that had been stitched. 

The incident has shocked South Korea, prompting acting President Choi Sang-mok to offer condolences during a cabinet meeting about the child’s death and order the Ministry of Education and the authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident.
