Syrian hospitals were dealing with an influx of children pulled from the rubble following a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit southeast Turkey and northern Syria on Monday. In Bab al-Hawa hospital run by the Syrian American Medical Society, a young girl, Gana al-Abdo, was brought in from the town of Harem after being trapped under the rubble for 50 hours and losing all her family members.

Al-Abdo suffered from many bruises but her general condition was stable."The ambulance brought her with many bruises and after the clinical and radiology examinations, we decided to keep to keep her for observation,” said hospital physician Khalil Alsfouk.Rescue crews braved freezing overnight temperatures in quake-hit areas in both countries in hope of reaching survivors and pulling more bodies from the rubble.
