Syria held the first parliamentary election

Syria on Sunday held the first parliamentary election. The country’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa has been leading nation-building efforts.  The election was an indirect one to pick the 210 members of parliament, with 70 of them appointed by Sharaa. Electoral body members selected by the interim government chose the other 140.
