The opening ceremony of a swimming coaching course, organized under the Olympic Solidarity program of the International Olympic Committee, was held at the Multipurpose Hall in the Gold Camp Sports Training Center in Naypyidaw on November 11.
First, the Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan delivered an opening speech expressing that the efforts to elevate the national sports standards are being made through both short- and long-term plans, with the initial goal of achieving success among Southeast Asian nations, and then progressing to attain success at the Asian and global levels. He emphasized that swimming, as an Olympic sport with potential for numerous medals, should be developed collectively.
He noted that the government is sending athletes abroad to gain international sports experience, and this newly launched swimming coaching course will be instrumental in raising the standard of Myanmar's swimming capabilities.
He also conveyed gratitude to the Myanmar Olympic Committee, the World Aquatics Federation, the Myanmar Swimming Federation, and the course instructor for their support in organizing the training course, which will greatly contribute to the development of swimming in Myanmar. Following this, Mr. Buddhi Manoj Abeysinghe from the United States, an expert assigned by the World Aquatics Federation who will provide theoretical and practical instruction, gave a welcoming speech. The course will run from November 11 to 16, with 29 participants in attendance.
