Swedes are increasingly stocking up on food and supplies as authorities urged citizens to boost their readiness and ensure they can manage for at least a week without outside assistance. At a civil preparedness fair in southwest Stockholm, residents shared how they are adapting to this advice.
Martin Svennberg, Business developer said "In the event of a crisis or even war, it's important that every individual in our country knows that they are a key player and they need to prepare to be a keyplayer by stocking up on food and making sure they have water and other things that make their world go around."
Many have purchased camping stoves, taken preservation courses, and begun testing ways to cook without electricity or running water. Some families are compiling recipes suited for crisis conditions, hoping to turn them into a practical preparedness guide. The country’s focus on readiness has grown gradually since major forest fires in 2014, a severe heatwave in 2018, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Authorities emphasize the importance of stocking familiar, long-lasting foods rather than unfamiliar emergency rations.
