Sweden's 2019 home features female role models

17 May 2019

The Sweden women's World Cup squad was announced in Stockholm on Thursday and will head to the World Cup in France where they will don a specially-designed shirt adorned with female icons chosen by the players. The players on the squad were asked to suggest women who inspired them and the images were then used to decorate the numbers on the back of the shirts in a recent friendly against Germany, proving to be a big success.

Manufacturers Adidas told Reuters that women's football is growing quickly and that the Sweden shirt is part of an effort to reach out to more fans, male and female. The 23 players chosen by Sweden coach will become role models themselves when they take on Chile, Thailand and the reigning world champions from the USA when the tournament kicks off in France on June 7.
