Survey on Cyclone Affected Areas: Reports on findings of the survey in Rakhine State

ASEAN-Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ASEAN-ERAT) conducted survey at the areas affected by cyclone Mocha from 22nd to 25th May with the theme “One ASEAN One Response”.

Their findings during the survey in Sittwe, Rathaedaung, Kyauktaw and Ponnakyun Townships in Rakhine State were reported to Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khaing on Sunday.

Leaders of two survey groups reported on their findings and the tasks to be prioritized. In response to the report, the Union Minister reiterated that the government is carrying out the rehabilitation works with the priorities for health, education, electricity and communication sectors.

For the availability of purified drinking water, repairing works are underway for the damaged wells, and clean water has been distributed by the mobile water purifiers. Moreover, plans have been made for distribution of crop seeds and fingerlings. Arrangements are also made for implementing the Cash for Work program.

Clearing works are also carried out by the Tatmadawmen, members of Myanmar Police Force, Fire Brigade and volunteers. She added that efforts are being made for reopening of markets and price stability. She also explained the work implementations for cyclone emergency response and rehabilitation works.
