Super Bowl betting is bigger than ever

A record 50.4 million American adults plan to bet on this year's Super Bowl, wagering a total of $16 billion, the gambling industry's national trade group predicted. The American Gaming Association forecasts that 1 in 5 American adults will place a bet on Sunday's NFL championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.

The total amount expected to be wagered this year is more than double the amount from last year as the legal U.S. sports betting market continues to grow. As legal sports betting grows, so too has concern about its effect on people with gambling addictions. Experts say aggressive advertising is contributing to a rise in problem gambling.
