Sufficient Fuel Supply: Plans underway to re-operate No.1 Oil Refinery (Thanlyin)

Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, accompanied by relevant departmental personnel conducted an inspection at No.1 Oil Refinery under the Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise (MPE) in Thanlyin, Yangon Region, on Saturday.

During the inspection, the Union Minister and party heard report on the preparations and future plans for the re-operation of the factory. Following the report, the Union Minister gave instructions for conducting a site survey for the No.1 Oil Refinery's re-operation, ensuring adherence to set standards for design, equipment installation and construction. He emphasized proactive measures to mitigate environmental and socio-economic impacts caused by refinery's operation.

The Union Minister urged all staff to apply their existing technology and knowledge and stressed the importance of orderly research and development to advance technology in the time of factory resumption.

Subsequently, the Union Minister met with the Technical Advisory Group for the No.1 Oil Refinery (Thanlyin) and discussed matters related to factory design, technical aspects and industrial water availability as well as factory restoration measures during specified period.

He then toured the factory compound. No.1 Oil Refinery (Thanlyin), under the Ministry of Energy in Yangon Region is actively working to set up machinery and equipment to fully meet the nation's fuel needs. Efforts are being made to reuse existing infrastructure as much as possible, with plans to gradually resume operations.
