On May 31, Kamil Idris was sworn in as Sudan's new prime minister during a ceremony in Port Sudan, marking a significant step in the country's transition. He took the constitutional oath before Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, which currently serves as the collective head of state.

Idris, a former Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), was appointed on May 19, by General Burhan. His appointment is the first civilian Prime Minister ship. Idris is tasked with forming a transitional government aimed at steering Sudan toward stability and democratic governance.

Idris is seen as a unifying figure due to his lack of political affiliations and his background as a legal adviser and member of the UN International Law Commission. His appointment is viewed as a significant move toward restoring civilian governance in Sudan.
