







The 2025-2026 Academic Year Shan State (South) Basic Education Students' Sports Festival was held at the State Sports Ground in Taunggyi on September 17.
First, Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung, Chief of Staff of the East Command Brigadier General Sein Myint, State Minister for Economy, State Minister for Natural Resources, and State Minister for Social Affairs cut the ribbon to open the event and greeted the participating athletes.
At the opening ceremony, Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung stated that organizing sports competitions at the basic education level is a key priority for the Ministry of Education. He mentioned that the Ministry of Education’s Department of Basic Education will participate in four sports including athletics, badminton, basketball, and Sepak Takraw at the 14th ASEAN Schools Games to be held in Brunei in 2025. He also emphasized that through the Basic Education Students' Sports Competitions in the 2025-2026 academic year, new-generation athletes will be selected to compete in the ASEAN Schools Games.
Following this, the participating athletes took the sports oath, and students from basic education high schools in Taunggyi demonstrated fitness exercises.
In the opening match of the Men Football Tournament, Loilem District competed against Kalaw District, with Loilem District winning 4–0. The tournament will be held from September 15 to 19.
Later, the State Chief Minister and officials visited the site designated for the construction of a football academy in Nyo Mee Field, Hti Paung Village Group, Taunggyi Township. Officials provided an explanation of the site, and the State Chief Minister instructed relevant officials to address necessary requirements.
