Student Sports Competition: Taninthayi Region CM delivered the opening speech

The opening ceremony of U-18 basic education student sports competition at the Taninthayi Region level for the 2025-2026 academic year was held at the Shwewei Thiri Sports Ground in Dawei Township in the afternoon of September 22. First, the competing teams took their places on the field and paid salute to the Chief Minister of the region.

At the competition, the Chief Minister U Myat Ko stated that the regional-level U-18 basic education student sports competition for the 2025-2026 academic year, is organized to select regional representatives who will participate and compete in the 14th ASEAN School Sports Festival to be held in Brunei from November 20 to 29, 2025. This event aims to select outstanding athletes for the region and hopes to produce a new generation of exceptional athletes trusted by the nation. The competing athletes are encouraged to rely on their determination and spirit to not only uphold the honor of the region but also to elevate the prestige of the nation. They must strive to become selected athletes who can achieve this goal.

Then, led by the parade commander, the competing teams recited the four points of the sportsmanship oath and exited the field. The students performed entertainment with songs such as the Drum and Bugle Group, the Pom Pom dance Group, and Fitness Dance under the theme "For Our Union."

Subsequently, the Chief Minister, Chief Justice of Region High Court, region ministers, department officials, teachers, students, and sports enthusiasts watched and supported the national football competition between the Dawei Team and the Ye Phyu Team. The Dawei Team won with a score of 15 to 0.

The Thaninthayi Region U-18 Basic Education Student Sports Competition will feature football, volleyball, Sepak Takraw, track and field, badminton, shot put, table tennis, and basketball events from September 19 to 24, it’s reported.
