Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Thet Thet Khaing attended the inauguration ceremony of the Tea for Harmony Yaji Cultural Salon at the Chinese Cultural Center in Yangon on Friday.

The ceremony began with a speech by Ms. Cao Jing, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar. Following her speech, the Union Minister underscored the event's aims of fostering cultural exchange and strengthening tourism cooperation between Yunnan Province of the People’s Republic of China and Myanmar.

The Union Minister further highlighted that cultural tourism is a vital key of economic development, offering a significant opportunity for both Myanmar and China to benefit from tourism and deepen their mutual understanding on traditional cultures.

Next, Ms. Wang Jiahong, deputy head of Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, delivered a speech. This was followed by the performances, featuring traditional Yunnan folk songs and costumes, Myanmar traditional songs and marionette dances, as well as discussions on promoting tourism in Yunnan.

Afterwards, the Union Minister and other relevant officials toured the display of Yunnan’s local products and handicrafts. In 2022, UNESCO recognized "Chinese Traditional Tea Processing Techniques and Associated Social Practices" as an intangible cultural heritage, and global interest in green tea culture has since surged.

Similarly, Myanmar has its own rich tea traditions, including drinking tea and consuming pickled tea leaves salad. On August 10th, the Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister, departed Yangon for China to attend ASEAN-China Week 2024 from August 11th to 15th in Changzhi City of Shanxi Province.

The ASEAN-China Week-ACW 2024 will be held under the themes, “ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: Achieving Prosperity through Innovation” and “Youth, Embarking on a Journey towards a Bright Future”.
