Steering Committee Meeting: Discussion on purchase and distribution of Urea Fertilizer

A work coordination meeting of the Steering Committee on the Purchase and Distribution of Urea Fertilizer was held at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development.

Chairman of the Steering Committee and Union Minister U Hla Moe urged officials for strict measures to ensure the member companies for timely process. He also called for cooperative efforts of concerned departments for timely availability of inputs, meeting the quality and reasonable price. 

The meeting discussed about the actions on previous meeting decisions and documenting the fertilizer and pesticides to be imported by company during July and September as well as the supervising measures on the sales and distribution of the member companies according to the reference price.

It is learnt that 1.6 million tons of fertilizer have been targeted to import during the 2024-2025 fiscal year. During the four months period from April to July in 2024, recommendations have been made for license permission to import agricultural inputs including over 950,000 tons of fertilizer and 13,000 tons of pesticides.

As of 22nd July, licenses were granted for import of 610,000 tons fertilizer, and among them, over 400,000 tons have already been imported.
