Stake Driving Ceremony: New International Port Terminal at Thilawa SEZ

Stake driving ceremony to construct international port terminal and modern storage facility took place at Thilawa Special Economic Zone on April 4th. 

Member of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo in his capacity as Chairman of the Central Committee on Ensuring Smooth Flow of Trade and Goods, attended the ceremony together with the Yangon Region Chief Minister and concerned officials.

After delivering a speech, the Union Minister heard reports on the purposes of project implementation along with the clarification of project’s plan. Then, the ceremony continued at the chosen site for new facility, with laying the foundation, sprinkling scented water and filling sand.

The Union Minister and party later tour around the site to coordinate the necessities. Under the guidance of the head of state, the Memorandum of Agreements- MOAs were signed on January 2nd 2025 to implement the project under the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Myanma Port Authority, in collaboration with 3 private companies.

Upon completion, the 585 meter long international port terminal and 82,500 square feet wide modern storage could double up the export goods. The project also provides benefits for the country’s maritime trade route, connecting local and international port terminals.
