St. Petersburg International Legal Forum: MOL Union Minister participates in the International Legal Forum

At the invitation of Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation Mr. Konstantin A. Chuychenko, the Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorney General Dr. Thida Oo attended the 12th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, held at St. Petersburg, Russian Federation on Friday.

The Plenary Session of the forum was held under the theme "Law as the Basis for Global Balance". During the opening meeting of Justice Ministers, the Union Attorney General emphasized that fostering long-term cooperation with international organizations and allied countries is one of the key objectives of the Ministry.

She added that future cooperation will be implemented through discussions, workshops, plenary sessions and exchange of experts where participants exchanged views on legal systems, legislative practices, and information sharing, under the memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Legal Affairs of Myanmar and the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.

At the forum, the Myanmar delegation engaged in discussions covering a wide range of legal topics, including international law, society and human rights, law and sovereignty, criminal law, innovation and technological laws, economic laws and responses to unilateral sanctions, dispute resolution laws, legal education, environmental and urban projects, legal services, and corporate governance practices.

The Ministry of Legal Affairs of Myanmar and the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on legal issues on 12th May 2023.

Additionally, a Memorandum of Cooperation between Myanmar's Ministry of Legal Affairs and Russia's Prosecutor General’s Office was signed on 22nd May the same year, focusing on ongoing legal collaboration.
