St. Peter's Basilica open for last day of Pope lying in state

April 25 marks the final day of public viewing for Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Tens of thousands of mourners have gathered to pay their respects to the 88-year-old pontiff, who passed away earlier this week following a stroke. The basilica remained open throughout the night, except for a brief closure, to accommodate the unexpected turnout, with nearly 130,000 people expected to have visited by the end of the day.​
