Spreading Disinformation: False information on the events in Shan State (North)

Residents in several townships of Shan State (North) have experienced temporary displacement due to attacks by the MNDAA, TNLA, and AA.

On Wednesday, around 9:30 am, a vehicle carrying displaced persons was struck by a heavy weapon in the Ton Chein area near Laukkai, resulting in numerous casualties.

In the aftermath of this incident, fake news circulated on social media, attributing the attack to the Regional Military Command (Laukkai), as claimed by the MNDAA Information In-Charge Li Jiawen. Contrary to the misinformation, local residents and other sources suggest that the security forces in operation did not initiate the attack.

Instead, it is believed that the terrorists, aiming at a military post, launched a weapon that hit the vehicle.

The spread of fake news appears to be a deliberate attempt by the terrorists to instigate instability in the region, garner public support through fear, and create misunderstandings about the Tatmadaw's involvement.
