Spreading Disinformation: Clarification on forced recruitment in Kantbalu

Fake news has been circulating on social media, claiming that residents in Kantbalu of Sagaing Region are being forced into joining the People’s Militia Force. The false reports suggest that those unwilling to enlist are required to pay 30,000 kyats per household, while recruits receive a monthly payment of 3 million kyats and family assistance.

In response to these allegations, a local official has refuted the claims, asserting that there is no such incident by the administrative bodies in the area. It is learnt that local residents have voluntarily collaborated with security forces to counteract arson attacks, murders, mine blasts, and extortion attempts by terrorists.
