



Opening of the 2022-2023 Academic Year Basic Education Student Sports Festival took place on Tuesday afternoon at the WunnaTheikdhi Stadium [B] in Nay Pyi Taw.
Union Minister for Education Dr. NyuntPe, Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan and many other officials attended this opening ceremony. In his address, Union Minister Dr. NyuntPe stressed that Sports is not just about winning and losing, but about perseverance, tolerance, mental strength, unity and respecting the rules.
He also urged the students participating in the Festival to strive to become national athletes. The basic education student sports festival plays a key role in raising the level of Myanmar's sports standard, the Union Minister added. And, the 2022-2023 Academic Year Basic Education Student Sports Festival participated by 1,680 persons was opened which is set to be held from the 18th to the 27th of January at the Stadium.
It’s reported that starting from the 2022-2023 academic year, the Basic Education Student Sports Festival includes 4 types of sports, namely football, volleyball, track and field and SepakTakraw. Talented athletes from the currently held Basic Education Student Sports Festival will be selected to represent the country to compete in the 12th ASEAN School Games to be held in the Philippines.
