Sports Festival: SAC Vice Chairman addresses the Leading Committee meeting

Leading Committee for Organizing the 5th National Sports Festival held its meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday. Patron of the Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win attended the meeting and made a speech.

He said the festival will be held in a grand manner since it aims to promote the sports standards of the country, bringing prestige and arousing patriotic spirit of its people. He stressed to provide deserving prizes to the winning athletes who will represent the respective departments, regions and states.

He outlined the needs to attract public interest through variety of media platforms. The Vice Senior General called for cooperation of all concerned persons for successful holding of the sports festival. The meeting discussed the plans for successful holding of opening and closing ceremonies, preparation of sports events, work implementations of the sub-committees and future plans.

National Sports Festival has been held for four times with the first edition in 1992 in Yangon with 22 types of sports, followed by the second festival in 1994 with 24 types of sports, the third in 1997 with 29 sports. The fourth festival took place in 2015 with 27 sports in Nay Pyi Taw. The selected athletes for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games and other international sports meet will be chosen through the upcoming fifth National Sports Festival.
