Spanish PM: masks wearing made mandatory outdoors

The Spanish government announced Wednesday that face masks will become obligatory outdoors in public spaces, aside from some limited exceptions, as Europe faces surging COVID-19 cases.Speaking at a press conference in Madrid, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said there would be some exceptions.The measures come as Sanchez warned that the omicron variant is driving "a new wave of the pandemic", with cases averaging 748 per 100,000 over the last 14 days.The omicron strain has soared from 5% of new cases in Spain to 47% within the past week.
