Spanish authorities make record marijuana seizure

Spain's Civil Guard announced Saturday that they had seized a record-breaking amount of marijuana.

Authorities said the haul constitutes the largest ever of this type of drug, with 32 tons of marijuana buds found in different stages of processing before being sold in Spain, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.

The 32,370.2 kilograms of marijuana were found in various processing stages, including as dried plants, in greenhouses and facilities, where they were vacuum packed and ready for sale.

The Guardia Civil said that the amount of drugs, equivalent to over a million plants, was processed and sold through a complex network of locations. Twenty people, including nine men and 11 women between the ages of 20 and 59, were detained, officials said.
