Spain wants to ban social media for under-16s

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Tuesday announced during a visit to Dubai that his Spanish government wants to ban access to social media for under-16s in order to protect them from a world of "pornography" and "violence".

Pedro Sanchez, Spanish Prime Minister said "Today, our children are exposed to a space they were never meant to navigate alone. Space of addiction, abuse, pornography, manipulation, violence, we will no longer accept that. We will protect them from the digital wild west."

Sánchez also pledged to change Spanish law to make the chief executives of tech platforms "face criminal liability for failing to remove illegal or hateful content".
