Spain declares three days of mourning for Pope Francis

Spain will observe three days of official mourning to honor the late Pope Francis, following his death on Monday. Justice Minister Felix Bolanos made the announcement in a televised address, expressing the government's condolences on behalf of the Spanish president and cabinet. Bolanos praised Pope Francis for his advocacy against inequality, injustice, and climate change, as well as his focus on marginalized communities.

He highlighted the Pope's commitment to peace, dialogue and diplomatic solutions to conflicts worldwide, including his concern for migrants, victims of trafficking and ongoing conflicts in Middle East. The minister also reflected on Spain's close relationship with the pontiff, noting his warmth and affection for the country, as well as his deep understanding of Spain’s reality.
