South Korean students sit for university exams while parents pray

South Korean students took a nationwide university entrance exam on Thursday. The annual exam is considered the most crucial test for students since academic achievement is significantly regarded in the highly competitive country.

From early morning, high school juniors were seen chanting and beating drums for their seniors in front of test venue, while exam takers' parents would pray at temples and churches until the exam finishes. More than 594,000 students are scheduled to take five subjects of exams which include Korean language, mathematics, social or natural sciences, English, and a second foreign language, according to the South Korean Education Ministry.
