In a laboratory in Seoul, South Korean scientists are experimenting with injecting cultured beef cells into individual grains of rice. Led by Professor Hong Jin-kee, the team envisions this innovative process as potentially transformative for global food consumption.

The project aims to address various challenges, including food security during famines and providing sustainable protein sources, such as for astronauts in space missions. Hong believes the concept of "meaty rice" could offer an eco-friendly and ethical alternative for meeting nutritional needs in the future.
