South Korean President Lee Jae Myung participated in the naming ceremony of the "State of Maine" ship on Tuesday at Hanwha Philly Shipyard in Philadelphia.
The event, attended by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, highlights the cooperation between the US and South Korea. In a congratulatory message, Lee noted that some 50 warships built in the Philly shipward played a role in winning World War II, helping Korea's liberation, and that now Korea has become a power in the shipbuilding industry.
The shipyard is a symbolic site of the Korea-U.S. shipbuilding cooperation project, known as Make American Shipbuilding Great Again (MASGA), which played an important role in finalizing the recent tariff negotiations between the two countries.
